There is no doubt first homes hold sentimental value. After all, they may be the place where you first moved in as a couple. Your first home may have been the result of your first big promotion at work. Your firstborn may have taken his or her first steps in your first home. That’s quite a few firsts!
However, there does come a time when you begin to consider a second home. First homes may be quaint and overflowing with beautiful memories, but they also might be literally overflowing, whether it’s with possessions, children or something else. Here are eight signs you might be outgrowing your first home:
1. You park on the street because your garage has become necessary storage space.
2. You have more children than bedrooms.
3. Your dogs are overweight because there’s no where to run.
4. Your kids (or spouse) can’t stop talking about a pool, patio or deck addition.
5. Your AC bill is super high because your regular gathering of friends or family fills the house so tightly that the heat is unbearable.
6. Your most enforced house rule has to do with the number of people allowed in your small kitchen at the same time.
7. You’re considering putting in an outhouse, because the morning bathroom schedule doesn’t seem to have any other solution.
8. The “spare bedroom” has become an office, storage for toys, home gym and a walk in closet.
Do any of these scenarios sound familiar? Maybe it’s time to pack up your first-home memories and consider a move.
